residencIES in the wilds of canada
june | july | august | SEPTEMBER
OUR LAST applications CLOSED on the vernal equinox - march 19, 2020
PAST ARTISTS INVITATIONS NECESSARILY DEFERRED IN 2020 ARE BEING HONOURED AT FIRST OPPORTUNITY
TAKE CARE, KEEP INSPIRED, STAY WILD!
We welcome artists, partnerships, collectives and families to submit proposals of all kinds, in any media, for residency of any duration from June through September, at our three uniquely wild Canadian locations.
We encourage exploration of the following corresponding themes:
inductive reductive
at
theano point
lake superior, ontario
Induce a reductive premise in your research or art process. Unleash a wilderness in your creativity by living simply on the shores of Lake Superior. Commune with the elements and hone your awareness. Expand into the freedom and purity of expression found in imposing limitations to distill your ideas.
Artists who are adventurous in spirit and experienced in the outdoors will relish in the sublime majesty of this wild place from the comfort of our beachfront Airstream.
Isolation and unplugging is required by this remote location. Connect to the land and water to infuse your art practice, erode the sediment of everyday routine, and reveal the pearl of your wildest dreams.
edge of the earth
at
coral cabin
new world island, newfoundland
Inform your centre by defining the edges. Artists seeking solitude and simplicity can float adrift from modern routines to explore the mysteries and wild charms of northern ocean coves in this fabled circle of traditional outport fishing islands: one of the world famous “four corners of the earth”.
Explore and retreat at the cozy home base of our off-grid salt-box cabin on a quiet rural New World Island cove between Fogo and Twilingate.
Step back in time and settle into simpler routines with essential amenities. Live on the edge of the North-Atlantic sea and observe the old ways to inspire a new reality.
pleasure paradigm
at
wild mill studios
Pine river valley, ontario
Indulge in the pleasures of your art practice and relax into natural systems to intuitively explore shifted paradigms. Enjoy the luxuries of time and space at our restored historic mill in the Pine River Valley of the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
Support your art practice with restorative hikes, swims, soaks in the tub and nights sleeping to the sound of the stream or glow of the fire.
A private apartment with workspace and wifi, nearby towns, resources and facilities frees artists to imagine new systems to live and work, in which the personal is political and pleasure redefines the paradigm.
